General Definition of Work:

Performs difficult skilled technical work assisting the Health Department with administrative and clerical tasks,

coordinating and attending meetings and transcribing meeting minutes; preparing, processing and completing required

reports and documents; processing payroll and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the

limited supervision of the assigned supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides administrative assistance to the Health Department, prepares and composes correspondence, reports,

contracts, and policies

  • Coordinates and attends meetings; transcribes minutes; prepares meeting agendas and materials; facilitates

communication between the department, Board members, and the Board of Commissioners.

  • Assists the general public by phone, email, and in person; directs inquiries to the appropriate resource as needed.
  • Maintains department job descriptions, job postings, seniority lists, and departmental contracts.
  • Processes payroll operations for the department; monitors and maintains time records; reviews union contracts to
ensure compliance.

  • Assists with departmental programs; produces and distributes newsletters; coordinates events; ensures accurate
and timely distribution of material to employees and the general public.

  • Assists, updates, and maintains department social media and website.
  • Organizes and processes reports, composes, and types correspondence; researches data for various program
analyses.

  • Serves as a liaison between the Department and other county staff; ensures completion of employee requests to
improve their physical work environment through maintenance request.

  • Assists with grant requests and submission.
  • Maintains Board membership lists.
  • Serves as department Human Resources Coordinator; maintains personnel files, and authorized personnel within

the department; provides new hire orientation to staff and ensures proper employee departure.

  • Assists Health Promotions Coordinator with outreach and marketing materials for programs.
  • Coordinates state public health accreditation review process; reviews and modifies revisions; updates policies;

creates a plan of organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Associates/Technical degree in business administration, public health, or related field

Experience: Considerable (three (3) years or more) experience assisting with and coordinating administrative operations

within a government or healthcare setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

✓ Valid driver’s license in the State of Michigan

✓ Incident command certification upon hire
