Position: Project Coordinator (Accessibility Initiatives)

Project Coordinator (Accessibility Initiatives) CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:

Under supervision, assists department head with the development of policy initiatives and strategic planning priorities. Provides coordination, documentation, and tracking support for accessibility-related initiatives and ADA Title II Transition Plan activities. Performs related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Assists department head with coordinating and developing policy initiatives and strategic planning priorities, including accessibility-related initiatives.
  • Assists department head with assessments and project planning, including coordinating accessibility assessments and documenting findings.
  • Develops and maintains standard assessment templates and trackers to document issues, risks, costs, timelines, and accessibility-related action items.
  • Serves as a representative for the department head at project meetings and coordinates cross-department follow-up on assigned action items.
  • Supports the department’s operational planning by tracking process improvement items, documenting gaps, and coordinating follow-up for evaluation.
  • Prepares written reports for management and works with department head to gather and convey information and projects results and assessments including compiling information and recommendations from appropriate reviewing units related to accessibility initiatives.
  • Maintains documentation required for project accountability and project assessment, including maintaining ADA Title II Transition Plan documentation and related tracking logs as assigned.
  • Coordinates the collection and routing of relevant plans, specifications, and project materials for accessibility consideration by appropriate reviewing units; compiles comments, decisions, and follow-up items for tracking.
  • Coordinates accessibility site visits and walk‑troughs with relevant departments or consultants; documents observations and maintains records of findings and status updates.
  • Supports ongoing maintenance of accessibility-related records by tracking barriers, action items, timelines, and updates provided by responsible units.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training and

    Experience:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning or a field related to project coordination, public policy, or planning, supplemented by one to three years of administrative and/or project coordination experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Illinois Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience supporting ADA Title II / accessibility-related initiatives (for example, coordinating assessments, maintaining documentation, and tracking action items).
  • Familiarity with reviewing plans/drawings and using tools such as AutoCAD, Sketch Up, and/or Adobe Creative Suite.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good knowledge of the principles and techniques of business management.
  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of office management.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multi‑stakeholder reviews, maintain accurate tracking logs, and prepare clear documentation and status reports.
  • Ability to maintain working familiarity with applicable accessibility requirements and guidance sufficient to support coordination and documentation, and to identify items for escalation to appropriate subject matter experts.
