About the Organization

The Vancouver School Board is one of Canada’s most diverse school systems. It provides learning experiences for more than 7,700 staff and supports equity and inclusivity across its community. The PRCVI is a Provincial Outreach Program funded by the Ministry of Education and Child Care and is hosted by the VSB. It provides learning resources, leadership, information, training, and consultation to support BC schools’ equitable access for students with visual impairments.

Role Overview

As Library Systems Coordinator, you will provide technical and resource support to PRCVI. Responsibilities include managing libraries, maintaining databases, coordinating alternate format production, liaising with staff and vendors, and ensuring data integrity. You will also manage the library’s acquisitions, metadata, and catalogue systems, and lead projects related to technology enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and resource support to PRCVI
  • Maintain quality, accuracy, and organization of PRCVI library databases and catalogue
  • Liaise with contract programmers and internal staff to troubleshoot and develop the public-facing library catalogue and internal databases
  • Provide guidance, instruction and direction to library and production staff; schedule, assign, and coordinate work projects
  • Ensure standardization and integrity of data; troubleshoot database and equipment issues
  • Manage Braille transcription: assign new work, create cost projections, update tracking database
  • Maintain supplies for alternate format production, reorder and negotiate bulk pricing as needed
  • Request original files from publishers and existing alternate format material from other centers across Canada and internationally
  • Place orders with vendors on Standing Purchase Orders
  • Generate library recall notices, calculate costs and issue invoices to districts with lost items
  • Assign work to office support staff for contractor invoices and database entry
  • Notify Library & Archives Canada of new titles in production and completed items
  • Coordinate alternate format provincial exam & FSA requests and liaise with the Ministry of Education and Child Care adjudications coordinator
  • Coordinate ARC-BC production: maintain priorities & progress, support cataloguing, handle digital format requests, liaise with Production Facilitator on format issues
  • Liaise with contract programmers for ARC-BC design enhancements, software testing and database issues
  • Perform other work within the job band as assigned

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus a minimum of four years of post-secondary training in Library and Information Sciences, Information Management or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years of relevant library or information management experience
  • Advanced knowledge of library systems management, acquisitions, metadata, and discovery strategies
  • Professional experience in project management and budgeting is an asset
  • Proven ability to establish priorities, meet tight deadlines, work independently and in a team, exercise good judgment, and solve problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and data manipulation skills, and proficiency in Excel

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary is $84,393.00 plus a comprehensive benefits package that includes Municipal Pension Plan, Vancouver Employee Savings Plan, Extended Health, Dental, Group Life, Long-Term Disability, vacation and gratuity days.
