Join the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB) as a Departmental Liaison Officer where you will deliver excellence in customer service and work with talented people to make a difference and shape Queensland’s future.

This role provides an exciting opportunity for a valuable team member to join the Executive Services Unit in working as part of a team to act as a conduit between CDSB and the Office of the Minister for Customer Services and Open Data and Minister for Small and Family Business.

The Departmental Liaison Officer (DLO) within the Office of the Director-General, CDSB plays a key role in supporting the Office of the Director-General (ODG) in providing an elevated level of executive support and advice to the Director-General.

The DLOs liaise with the Minister's office, all divisions within CDSB, other government agencies and external stakeholders to proactively identify and manage issues, support the Director-General in meeting CDSB's strategic objectives and ensure the effective functioning of the ODG.

As the Departmental Liaison Officer some of your duties will include:

  • Provide support to the Principal Departmental Liaison Officer by delivering quality communication and liaison support services between the Office of the Minister and

CDSB, ensuring they are provided with accurate, complete and timely information to enable them to deal with current and emerging issues that impact the portfolio.

  • Develop and maintain efficient and effective systems to support the accurate and timely flow of information between the Office of the Minister and CDSB.
  • Respond to government agencies, non-government service providers and members of the public in a diplomatic, prompt and appropriate manner and initiate referrals to the department where necessary and investigate and provide advice in response to inquiries/complaints on sensitive and confidential departmental issues.
  • Develop and maintain effective departmental and cross-agency networks to ensure timely and quality responses to requests for information.
  • Undertake research and provide advice on relevant departmental activities and co-ordinate briefings, reports and other submissions for the Director-General and the Office of the Minister on complex and sensitive departmental issues.

What are we looking for?

To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to acquire a detailed understanding of departmental policy issues, functions, legislation, procedures, and protocols governing communication process in a government context.
  • Demonstrate high level skill and ability to undertake research, analysis and problem solving to formulate innovative solutions to complex problems and issues.
  • Demonstrated understanding and proven ability to effectively utilise business systems to meet operational needs.
  • Good knowledge of the workings of government, including the role of departments, ministers, as well as government protocols and procedures.
  • Proven ability to apply good judgment to the management of contentious and sensitive issues.
