Administrative Assistant to the Rabbi Jobs in Winston-Salem at Temple Emanuel Winston-Salem

Temple Emanuel Winston-Salem is seeking an organized, proactive, and warm professional to serve as the Administrative Assistant to the Rabbi. This part-time position is responsible for administrative and logistical support for the Rabbi’s ritual, congregational, and community commitments. The Administrative Assistant to the Rabbi ensures that Temple members receive attentive care and communication and upholds confidentiality in all aspects of the role.

This position reports to the Executive Director and works in close coordination with the Rabbi. This is a 20-hour per week position with flexible scheduling available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administrative Support:

o Provide comprehensive administrative assistance to the Rabbi, including handling routine correspondence, scheduling meetings, preparing materials, ordering supplies, circulating agendas and notes, and following up on commitments.

o Provide support for the Rabbi’s professional projects and presentations.

o Ensure appropriate temple space is reserved and set up as needed for meetings and teachings.

  • Calendar & Schedule Management:

o Coordinate the Rabbi’s calendar, ensure timely scheduling of appointments, services, and meetings, and add items to the temple and/or staff calendar as needed.

o Coordinate travel logistics for the Rabbi’s speaking engagements, conferences, and congregational trips.

  • Lifecycle & Pastoral Support:

o Lifecycle Management: Coordinate the appointments and logistics for weddings, baby namings, funerals, and Brit Mitzvah services. Assist in tracking Shabbat Service attendance by Brit Mitzvah candidates. Schedule meetings with families and ensure all ritual items, files, and certificates are prepared. Work in close coordination with families to prepare and send lifecycle announcement emails to the congregation.

o Pastoral Sensitivity: Maintain the utmost confidentiality while assisting congregants in moments of crisis or grief; help manage pastoral care lists.

  • Member Care & Communication:

o Greet visitors and members in a friendly and welcoming manner.

o Respond to inquiries promptly and provide assistance as needed.

  • Confidential Records Management:

o Maintain sensitive member information with the highest level of confidentiality, adhering to privacy policies and ethical standards.

  • Other Duties as Assigned:

o Support other team members as necessary.

o Perform other duties as requested by the Executive Director.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong writing skills and professional phone etiquette are essential.
  • Proven experience in administrative support. Prior experience within a religious or community-based organization is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously and manage multiple tasks and deadlines calmly and effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Zoom, and Canva, and experience with database entry and management (we use ShulCloud).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and show discretion with sensitive matters.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with fellow staff members and to provide compassionate support to congregants.
  • Familiarity with Jewish ritual, traditions, holidays, and community life or a willingness to learn.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $21.00 – $23.00 per hour
