Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Respiratory Team at Southmead Hospital for a Typist/Administrator, 37.5 hours per week.

The successful candidate will support with producing and distributing clinical letters as well as document management. They will deploy a sound knowledge of IT packages in MS Office & Windows. The role requires someone who has a great attention to detail and great organizational skills as well as passion for improvement and team work.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to undertake letter processing and typing , which will include consultant clinics, discharge summaries and patient letters. They will also be required to facilitate physical document scanning and orgniainsg, assisting the senior administrators where possible to improve data quality and effective waiting list solutions across the service The role may also include answering the telephone and dealing with queries from patients, relatives & clinical staff as well as supporting the medical secretary with all other admin duties. Appropriate applicants will have a curious mindset and seek to learn and develop within the role, recognizing the value they add from their position and contributing to overall efforts of improvement across the service.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Supporting with typing of various letters
  • General office administrative tasks
  • Photocopying/faxing
  • Assisting with department filing as and when required.
  • To attend mandatory courses and participate in training programmes relating to areas of work. Ensure that skills and knowledge are up to date and develop when necessary.
  • To use Careflow (patient record system) to look up patient appointments, addresses and tracking of notes
  • General support to secretarial team

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable customer service experience

Desirable criteria

  • Previous NHS Experience
  • Previous clerical experience
  • Previous experience in a typist role

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Good educational standard of at least GCSE in English
  • Computer literacy
  • Good interpersonal skills including professional telephone manner
  • Clerical Skills

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent organisational skills
