Job Summary:
Responsible for coordinating student management transportation concerns for students, parents, school officials and the public. Coordinate and instruct students, parents and drivers in school bus safety, rules, and behavior. Review, archive and control video viewing, and logs per applicable Board policies. Act as a liaison between transportation, the school bus, schools, and families to facilitate clear and effective communication. Build positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff to promote understanding and support for transportation policies and procedures. Work closely with school personnel and families to identify and address transportation-related issues. Provide input for driver evaluations, regarding student management practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the video surveillance system, including its distribution, maintenance, and operation.
  • Investigate all concerns by conducting fact-finding interviews in cooperation with school staff regarding parents, students, and driver concerns. This investigation will be conducted with the Director of Transportation or Operations Manager as needed.
  • Act as transportation liaison between drivers, parents, students, and school staff in reference to students/or driver behavior. Coordinate all aspects of student management for transportation. Oversee and ensure the effective management of student behavior and issues related to transportation. Collaborate with school staff to develop strategies that encourage positive behavior.
  • Maintain student misconduct reports in a database and file copies. Mail copies to parents and related schools.
  • Answer telephone calls and 2-way radio communications. Assist driver with student management, and safety.
  • Substitute as Bus Driver or Bus Monitor as needed.
  • Evaluate student management techniques of drivers and monitors by riding on routes. Offer guidance and support on managing student behavior effectively.
  • Bill individuals for all vandalism on buses.
  • Remain up to date with pupil transportation regulations, guidelines, and laws by attending workshops and in-services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus computer and commercial driver training.
  • Over three years of Bus Driver experience.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.

Skills, Knowledge and Equipment:

  • Writing, communication, basic math, clerical, and computer skills.
  • Customer service and public relation skills. Critical thinking and problem solving.
  • The ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
  • Knowledge and awareness of all age groups of students to effectively train in student management.
  • Basic knowledge of Colorado Department of Education, Colorado Motor Vehicles rules and regulations, and special needs laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to drive and operate all District student transportation vehicles, including special needs equipment.
  • Ability to promote and follow District Policies and building and department procedures; communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds; and recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Completion of Department of Transportation physical and drug and alcohol screening required.
  • Commercial Driver’s License and Class "B" license with P2S endorsement required.
  • First Aid, CPR, and nonviolent crisis intervention training within 90 days of hire.
  • Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
