Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service located in Annapolis, MD, is offering a 10‑month Seasonal Contractual Project Review and Planning Administrative Assistant position. The successful candidate will provide direct support to the Project Review and Planning team, assisting with new project intake, monitoring the project review inbox, entering data into the project review database, and managing routine correspondence.

Duties include compiling project files, developing and processing documents, and coordinating with other DNR units, additional agencies, and external organizations. Planning support tasks encompass document preparation and review, grant reporting and accounting, and database management. Administrative responsibilities involve document scanning, scheduling meetings, and providing procurement assistance. Occasional outreach, webpage development, and social media tasks may also be required. The role will primarily be based in the Tawes State Office Building in Annapolis, with statewide initiatives and occasional travel across Maryland.

The position is telework eligible up to two days per week in accordance with the DNR Telework Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the project review inbox for new projects.
  • Input data into the project review database.
  • Compile project files and process documents.
  • Coordinate with other units of DNR, other agencies, and outside organizations.
  • Prepare and review documents for planning support.
  • Provide grant reporting and accounting assistance.
  • Scan documents, schedule meetings, and assist with procurement.
  • Conduct occasional outreach, webpage development, and social media activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university in business, public administration, communications, recreation and parks, or a natural resource‑related field.
  • Experience: One year of administrative support experience.
  • Note: Candidates may substitute additional education beyond the 60 credit hours, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working at a public agency (local, state, or federal) and familiarity with government agency operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
    Google applications (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive), Adobe software, and Docu Sign.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including data management, project tracking, and file management on shared network drives.

Licenses, Registrations and Certifications

Employees in this classification may be required to operate a motor vehicle, UTV, or golf cart. Employees assigned such duties must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in the State of Maryland with five points or fewer on their current driving record. A provisional driver’s license is not accepted.

Special Requirements

Applicants may undergo background investigations, including employment reference checks, education verification, driving record checks (if applicable), and criminal history checks, including fingerprinting. Continued employment is contingent on satisfactory results.

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered. Complete and accurate information on education and experience related to the essential functions of this position is required. For education obtained outside the U.S., a foreign credential evaluation must be provided prior to hire.

Contractual employees eligible under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program who work 30 or more hours a week (or an average of 130 hours per month) may qualify for subsidized health benefits.
