Dental Receptionist

Summary / Objective

The Dental Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for patients and plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, organized, and patient-centered experience. This position is responsible for managing front-desk operations, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance eligibility, and supporting daily administrative needs in a growing, multi-specialty dental start-up.

Expected Schedule

  • Wednesday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Saturday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

  • Additional Hours: May be available as the practice grows.
  • Schedule flexibility and final hours will be discussed during the hiring process.

Role Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly and check them in and out efficiently.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and manage voicemail messages.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments to optimize the daily schedule.
  • Verify dental insurance eligibility and update patient records accurately.
  • Collect and enter patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Perform appointment reminder and confirmation calls.
  • Conduct post-operative follow-up calls as directed by the clinical team.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional front-desk area.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff regarding patient flow and scheduling needs.
  • Address patient questions and concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Support general administrative and operational tasks as needed in a start-up environment.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and office policies at the front desk.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with dental practice management software (Open Dental) preferred.
  • Basic understanding of dental insurance and scheduling workflows.
  • Attention to detail and strong time management skills.
  • Patient-focused, professional, and dependable.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a dental or medical office preferred (entry-level candidates will be considered).
  • Basic computer and phone skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Dental office front-desk or receptionist experience.
  • Familiarity with insurance verification and eligibility checks.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or other language) a plus.
