Patient Care Technician (PCT)
Location: Penn Yan, New York
Position Type: 13 week contract with option to extend. 3 x 12’s

Full Time Patient Care Technician – Emergency Department
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED, BLS certification (through AHA or RQI), 1-year acute experience in hospital setting & computer literacy
Emergency Department Patient Care Technician – Full-Time
Education

Minimum: High school diploma or GED

Preferred: Post-secondary education in a related field; Medical Terminology coursework
Licenses/Certifications

Current BLS certification (provided during first week of hire)

CPI certification within 30 days of hire
Experience
-
Minimum: One year of acute care experience in a hospital setting; computer literacy required

Preferred: Experience in phlebotomy, EKG, emergency department, and Medical Terminology

Ability to organize, plan, and complete assignments under supervision of a Registered Nurse

Position Summary

Performs patient care activities and clerical functions under supervision of a Registered Nurse

Supports clinical operations of the Emergency Department

Provides technical assistance and participates in unit and organizational improvement activities

Responsible for review and completion of Emergency Department records
Essential Job Functions
-
Performs phlebotomy, EKGs, patient transport, hygiene care, vital signs, weights, pulse oximetry, and assists with procedures

Inputs radiology, laboratory, and EKG orders accurately and promptly in Meditech
-
Maintains departmental filing system, manages mail, and ensures organized record-keeping
-
Monitors and orders supplies, restocks rooms, and maintains cleanliness and organization of utility areas
-
Manages communication within the department, including answering phones, conveying messages, and assisting visitors courteously
-
Accurately enters patient orders, discharges, transfers, and related information into Meditech
-
Keeps patients and families informed about care processes and supports patient needs throughout their emergency visit
Additional Core Emergency Department Technician Responsibilities

Monitors and reports changes in patient condition promptly to nursing staff
-
Ensures safe patient handling and mobility, including use of transfer devices and fall prevention measures
-
Assists with wound care, splinting, and sterile dressing setup if needed under RN/MD supervision
-
Follows infection prevention and isolation protocols rigorously
-
Demonstrates proficiency in prioritizing multiple patients and tasks in a fast-paced environment
-
Supports de-escalation and behavioral emergency interventions
-
Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to ensure efficient patient flow and continuity of care

Accurately documents patient care and observations in the medical record according to policy

Maintains equipment by cleaning, testing, and reporting malfunctions promptly
