We are looking for an experienced Principal Admitting Worker – CCS Authorization Representative to join our team! If you have strong experience with Epic (APeX), insurance authorization, and order of benefits, this is a great opportunity to work in a high-impact healthcare role.
📍 Location: Emeryville, CA (Hybrid – 16–32 hours/month onsite)
🕒 Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
💰 Pay Rate: Minimum $50.88/hour

🔍 About the Role
The CCS Authorization Representative plays a critical role in securing treatment authorizations for California Children’s Services (CCS) patients, supporting both inpatient and outpatient services.
This role directly contributes to managing approximately $22M weekly in Discharged Not Billed (DNB) accounts, ensuring timely patient access and financial clearance.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities
- Secure authorizations by submitting Service Authorization Requests (SARs) across all 58 California counties
- Verify patient demographics, insurance eligibility, and benefits
- Ensure accurate documentation in Epic (APeX)
- Collaborate with case managers, providers, and CCS county offices
- Analyze accounts and resolve authorization or coverage issues
- Communicate effectively using medical and insurance terminology
✅ Required Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
- 3+ years of clerical experience (including 2 years at Admitting Worker level or equivalent)
- Strong experience with insurance eligibility, authorization, and order of benefits
- Knowledge of Medi-Cal, CCS, and third-party payer guidelines
Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Experience with EHR systems (Epic/APeX preferred)
- Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Additional Requirements:
- Basic medical terminology knowledge
- Typing speed: 30 WPM
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication
