Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position is a specialized clerical position requiring the exercise of judgement and initiative in the Sexually Transmitted Disease Program (STD) of the Miami-Dade County Health Department. The incumbent is assigned to the STD Surveillance Unit and may be required to periodically work in other areas as required by the management. This position is designated as a sensitive position and the incumbent is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with DOH and Miami-Dade County Health department information Security Policy, Protocol and Procedures. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining and securing the following confidential sets: STD case reporting, Surveillance information, and Clinical information. The position is responsible for reviewing and updating confidential information in electronic database. Incumbent is expected to communicate in courteous and professional manner at all times.
Picks up daily Labs reported (ELR), process, initiate records, verify treatment, updating demographics, pregnancy status, disposition or assign field records to Supervisors in accordance with Surveillance and Program guidelines.
Receives, date stamps, and sort incoming positive STD tests reports via telephones, electronic fax and mail; record search, add, create and update data in PRISM as needed in accordance with established protocols. Ensure accuracy, timelines and completeness of data.
Organizes and maintains filling system for reports received via telephone and Fax, keep in accordance to retention protocol and shred when the retention time applied.
Collects statistical data and performs other administrative duties related to the position. Acts as liaison with other counties. Accept telephone request from units and agencies, access client records and communicates requested information after proper verification of requestor identity.
Pick up field records from AREA11 ELR Lab folder to analyze for investigation to determine if record requires field follow-up or disposition closure. Contacting patients and confirming identity (not disclosing health information) for purpose of proof of pregnancy status (when applicable), as well as provider/ treatment information and demographic verification. Communicate with medical personnel and agencies to inform practitioners of CDC treatment guidelines and FL Statutes on STD Reporting.
Receives in house and outside phones calls, give results to clients, text message in accordance to Surveillance protocols and make appointment for referral clients.
Answer phone calls from general public not limited to addressing inquiries of COVID-19, Hepatitis, PrEP, HIV, STD screening and transferring callers to the appropriate department.
Attend meetings, training sessions and conferences. Performs incidental typing as required.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum – The incumbent in this position must have experience working in a culturally diverse, high‑volume environment with challenging assignments; providing customer service by answering phones, directing calls, and offering accurate information to customers and filing and retrieving documents, records, and reports electronically and in hard copy.
Preferred – Incumbent in this position is preferred to be bilingual in English and Spanish.
