New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency in Midtown Manhattan dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexities, disabilities, chronic illnesses and behavioral challenges. To assist us in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a talented and qualified Office Assistant/ Family Support Specialist to join the Office Services department.
Assistant to the Office Management Department in all aspects of Office Maintenance and Administration. This position supports NAC’s mission to provide the highest quality of care by complying with regulatory guidelines and meeting child welfare industry standards.

Position Type: Full-time- Salary Range: $40,000 – $43,000

Responsibilities Family Support Specialist:
- Appropriately and consistently document and otherwise communicate feedback regarding the provision of support services and recreation activities
- May be asked to assist recreation staff with overseeing trips, groups, and special events.
- Support project-related office requests, which may include the organization and data collection of donations (clothing and toy drives), supporting NAC’s gift, coat or food drives, etc.
- May be called upon to accompany children on NAC vans for transportation to and from client’s home.
- Assist in supervising children who present with challenging behaviors and all its related activities.
- Performs additional responsibilities in accordance with agency needs.
Responsibilities as Office Assistant:
- General office maintenance and minor repairs
- Light carpentry and painting
- Bank errands
- Able to manage a mid-to-large phone console(s); able to work with a team and/or independently; works well under pressure; legible handwriting; and excellent organization, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Have the ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively and the ability to communicate within a team setting.
- Must have experience working with children – ideally, experience working with children with disabilities or medical conditions and their families. Prior experience in working with children in the child welfare system is helpful.
- Individuals with interest in servicing clients in the social services industry, clients in low SES (Socioeconomic status) and a passion to serve kids.
- Able to lift items or equipment that can weigh up to 20 pounds.
- Light lifting is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10
- pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.
- Must be able to work late afternoons/evenings and some Saturdays.
- Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Should have experience in mailroom management, inventory receiving/stocking, office organization
- 1-2 years of Reception experience in an office environment, and pleasant phone manner
Required Skills:
- Must be computer literate
- Must be detailed oriented, and work well with the public
