- Provides professional nursing care to students hospitalized in the student health services unit or consumers housed in state-owned/operated facilities.
- Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of infirmary patients and/or clinic outpatients.
- Makes nursing rounds, takes and records vital signs.
- Prepares and administers prescribed medications, ordered treatment plans, and immunizations.
- Monitors restrained patients (e.g., those in isolation or under observation) every 15 minutes.
- Provides immediate medical attention to emergencies, including first aid, arranging hospital transport, and contacting the staff physician when necessary.
- Counsels patients regarding the need for medical referrals.
- Schedules, assigns, and reviews work of lower-level staff (e.g., RNs, LPNs) if assigned.
- May approve/disapprove leave requests and complete performance evaluations, though not mandatory.
- Participates in staff development and education; reviews care plans written by staff; trains and orients new employees.
- Responsible for the health care of 20–60 bedridden patients, including making rounds, evaluating care, creating care plans, and teaching health principles.
- Administers medications, including narcotics; provides all direct nursing care as needed.
- Performs specialized procedures such as IV therapy, chemotherapy, wound care, oxygen therapy, dialysis, blood transfusions, intubation and CPR, tube feeding, catheterization, suctioning, and phlebotomy.
- Organizes and oversees "code blue" response team.
- Directs healthcare staff (e.g., hospital aides and LPNs) assigned to the area.
- Acts as lead worker in charge during an assigned shift in the absence of a senior nurse.
- Assists physicians with diagnostic health evaluations.
- Performs clerical tasks, including charting and recording medications, treatments, and medical information.
- Completes required reports such as incident and accident reports, and documents Medicaid information.
- Orders medical supplies and equipment; maintains accurate inventory of all controlled drugs, medications, and medical equipment.
- Arranges outpatient clinic appointments and medical examinations by physicians.
- Manages prescriptions, including new and refilled orders through local pharmacies.
- Performs administrative tasks and serves as liaison with other departments or organizations.
- Conducts and/or attends meetings, occasionally serves as instructor.
- Serves as a member or leader of problem-solving teams or groups.
Pay: $50.00 – $57.00 per hour
