Mental Health Technician

Position Overview

The Mental Health Technician provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) within the Behavioral Medical Unit. This role supports patients through therapeutic engagement, safety monitoring, and assistance with daily living activities while contributing to a structured behavioral health treatment environment.

Schedule

• Night Shift

• 3 x 12-hour shifts

• 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM

• No block scheduling

• No call required

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs): bathing, dressing, hygiene, ambulation, transfers

• Support therapeutic programming and structured group activities

• Conduct patient safety checks and monitoring per policy

• Implement psychosocial interventions under RN direction

• Facilitate or co-facilitate therapeutic groups

• Utilize crisis intervention techniques including CPI/TEAM when necessary

• Recognize and report abnormal behaviors or physical symptoms to RN

• Participate in care planning and documentation

• Support patients and families through empathetic communication and education

• Assist with clerical tasks including admissions paperwork and documentation

Requirements

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)

• Associate’s or Technical Degree (Preferred)

• Minimum 2 years behavioral healthcare experience (Preferred)

Certifications

• AHA or ARC BLS (Required)

• CPI or TEAM certification (Required)

• CNA Certification (Preferred)

• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (Preferred)

• Management of Assaultive Behavior (Preferred)
