Why does the job exist?

Process and maintain resident admission information, transcription of Physician dictation, coding of diagnosis using ICD -10-CM, and process release of resident information.

How does it get done?

Protect the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained.

Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations.

Retrieve patient medical records for physicians, technicians, for other medical personnel.

Process patient admission or discharge documents.

Who are the customers?

Residents at a long-term care facility.

Ideal Candidate

Residents at a long-term care facility.

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or equivalent and three (3) months experience working in a hospital setting using medical terminology, processing and maintaining a medical records system, and/or use of Microsoft Office programs and hospital clinical software. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) months may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results. Will be screened for tuberculosis (TB) upon hire.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting, long hours of sitting and extreme computer use required, working in a very high stress level environment. Moves intermittently during working hours.

Is subject to frequent interruptions.

Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.,

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.

Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.

Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.

Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).

Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.,

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (¿CMS¿), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
