The Licensing Coordinator performs technical, administrative, and customer service work in support of the Community Development Department related to business licensing, alcohol and entertainment licensing, and short-term rental (STR) permitting; coordinates the intake, review, processing, issuance, and renewal of licenses and permits; ensures compliance with applicable City ordinances and regulations; maintains licensing and permitting records; collects and records fees; prepares reports and documentation;
serves as a liaison between applicants, contractors, business owners, residents, and various City departments and external agencies; provides information and assistance to the public regarding licensing, STR, and regulatory requirements; and performs related duties in support of the Community Development Department under the general supervision of the Community Development Director. The position also provides limited backup support to the front desk as needed.
Job Responsibilities
Reviews and approves or denies STR applications and renewals in accordance with City ordinances and established procedures.
- Oversees daily operational processes related to business licensing, alcohol licensing, entertainment licensing, and short-term rental (STR) permits.
- Reviews, processes, and issues new and renewal applications for business, alcohol, entertainment, and STR licenses in accordance with City ordinances.
- Provides information and assistance to the public regarding licensing requirements, STR regulations, application procedures, and compliance standards.
- Accepts, verifies, and logs applications; ensures completeness and compliance with applicable ordinances and policies.
- Calculates, collects, and records fees associated with licenses and permits; maintains accurate financial and licensing records.
- Uses database and permitting systems for data entry, tracking, and retrieval of licensing and compliance information.
- Maintains manual and electronic records related to licensing, STR permits, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinates with Code Compliance, Finance, and other City departments to ensure licensing and STR compliance and enforcement alignment.
- Prepares reports, correspondence, and documentation related to licensing activities, STR programs, and departmental operations.
- Prepares licensing information and documentation for City Council or administrative review as required.
- Ensures businesses and STR operators are informed of applicable tax requirements, including hotel/motel tax obligations.
- Assists applicants with completing applications and navigating licensing and STR processes.
- Monitors compliance status and identifies potential violations or unlicensed activity; coordinates with Code Compliance for follow-up when needed.
- Compiles data and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports related to licensing activity, revenues, and compliance trends.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and regulatory changes affecting licensing and STR operations.
- Attends training sessions, meetings, and work groups related to licensing and short-term rental programs.
- Provides limited backup support to front desk operations, including greeting customers, answering phones, and directing inquiries.
- Handles telephone calls and responds to routine informational requests based on established policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of related experience in licensing, permitting, municipal administration, customer service, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or Certifications
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.

- Knowledge of ordinances and policies related to business licenses, alcohol licenses, entertainment licenses, and short-term rentals.
- Knowledge of municipal government operations, permitting processes, and regulatory frameworks affecting development and licensing activities.
- Knowledge of building permit administration, inspection coordination, certificates of occupancy, and contractor licensing processes.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, records management procedures, and general administrative operations within a municipal environment.
- Knowledge of Planning Commission processes, public meeting procedures, and requirements for public notice and agenda preparation.
- Skill in maintaining accurate records, processing applications, tracking permits and licenses, and preparing reports related to licensing and development activities.
- Skill in operating personal computers and office software including Microsoft Office applications and permit tracking or records management systems.
