Description
The Lead Radiologic Technologist performs and/or assists with all Radiographic examinations and procedures in accordance with Radiology protocols. Renders technical assistance to the Radiologists, as requested.
Responsibilities
- Performs routine radiological procedures.
- Assists, prepares and positions patients as required to perform radiological procedures.
- Applies the necessary technical judgment to obtain studies of an acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and the patients’ needs.
- Provides patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures by informing the patient of the nature of the procedure, the area to be imaged and any specific instructions the patient may need.
- Assists with technical staff schedules and breaks.
- Delegates responsibility to staff as appropriate in the absence of a supervisor, or as directed.
- Assists in orientation and training off new staff, ensuring they are up to date on best practices, safety standards, and equipment usage.
- Ensures radiographically visible evidence of shielding in all instances where appropriate, especially pediatric patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of departmental metrics, and takes the necessary actions to optimize workflow throughput, and minimize length of stay.
- Support cross-training opportunities to enhance staff versatility and departmental resilience.
- Scans patient related documents, as necessary.
- Ensures all images are appropriately labeled as specified by the department SOP.
- Assists physician directly as required during procedures (e.g., Biopsies, injections, drainages etc.)
- Ensure images are of optimal quality, taking corrective actions as needed to minimize retakes and ensure diagnostic accuracy.
- Evaluates radiographs for technical acceptability and ensures images are transmitted to PACS in a timely fashion.
- Ensures that all studies performed are completed in EPIC Radiant in a timely fashion.
- Assists with departmental QA/QC program ensuring compliance with all regulatory agency requirements.
- Schedules exams into EPIC as required.
- Ensures Radiology room and equipment cleanliness, at the start and at the end of the shift, to include removal of soiled or dirty linen.
- Maintains supplies and accessories in imaging room necessary to safely perform duties, as required.
- Accurately records all required patient tracking information, and exam notes into Epic Radiant.
- Scans patient related documents as required.
- Calls for in-patients as required.
- Performs related clerical duties in the absence of support personnel.
- Informs supervisor/manager or appropriate personnel of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions.
- Assists radiology students assigned to his/her clinical area.
- Attends in-services and other professional development meetings as required.
- Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.
- Maintains appropriate Continuing Medical Education credits in accordance with the guidelines set by the ARRT.
- Prevents the spread of infection to self, patients, visitors, and other employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocol.
- Maintains in good standing, licensure specific to job to include adherence to Article 35 of the Public Health Code.
- Ensures that all studies performed are correct and completed in Epic Radiant and sent to PACS immediately after completion of exam.
- Performs all ordered examinations of appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with Division Standards of Practice and Protocols. The technologist must review procedure request and or select the correct protocol, patient’s medical information and screening information to ensure Radiology Department Final Checks process is accurately performed.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical radiography experience.
- Current ARRT (R) certification.
- Current NY State licensure.
Guidelines for Sign-On Bonus:
This program is for registered CT Techs, PET/CT Techs, MRI Techs, and Breast Sonography Techs seeking full time employment at the Mount Sinai Health System.
A successful hire could result in a bonus total of $10,000 over the span of 2 years.
**In order to receive the bonus payment, the employee must be in an active employment status.
- A new hire CT Tech, PET/CT Tech, MRI Tech, or Breast Sonography Tech who successfully completes their three-month probation will receive a $1,000 bonus payment.
- If the new hire remains actively employed full time for a total of one year from their date of hire, the employee will receive a $4,000 bonus payment.
- If the designated employee remains actively employed full time for a total of two years from their date of hire, the employee will receive a $5,000 bonus payment.
** Eligible positions include: All 1199 CT Techs, PET/CT Techs, MRI Techs, Breast Sonography Techs (excluding the Dubin Breast Center).
** In order to receive the bonus payment the designated employee must remain in active employment status for the 2 year duration, periods on leave, paid or unpaid will not be counted towards the bonus.
** Former Mount Sinai Health System employees are ineligible for up to twelve months after termination date

Pay: $59.87 per hour
