Infant Toddler Teacher Jobs in Grand Rapids, MI at UNITED METHODIST COMMUNITY HOUSE
Qualifications include a minimum of a CDA or willingness to obtain a CDA. Candidates must have the ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles required; the ability and desire to work with children aged 6 weeks old – 3 years old; working knowledge of trauma-informed classrooms is a plus. This position requires face-to-face leadership with students and parents.
Essential Functions:
- Engage children in activities and play that stimulate their development; ensure these planned daily activities are developmentally appropriate for young children.
- Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use/diapering, tooth brushing, hand washing)
- Engage in active supervision of children while keeping them safe at all times
- Provide a Daily Report both electronically and verbally in person to parents
- Establish a professional level of rapport with each family to provide quality care and friendly service; ensure customer service standards are met
- Create and maintain an environment that is clean, organized, and welcoming for all children
- Work collaboratively with other teachers and assigned volunteers in the classroom
- Complete all clerical, data entry, and record-keeping duties
- Follow all Center, NAYCE, and Licensing (LARA) policies, protocols, procedures, and standards

- Be customer service orientated and professional
- Participate in professional development opportunities and requirements as provided by the Center; meet all annual, State, and quality requirements
- Be mentally and physically capable of caring for children in a classroom
- Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability and willingness to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, students, and parents.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, school staff and parents; skills in oral and written communication.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds such as books and teaching material. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to sometimes work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
Must be able to lift or carry a child weighing up to 50 pounds away from a potentially dangerous situation during an emergency that may/may not include an evacuation.
