The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) mission is to provide a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, while promoting economic development and preserving the environment of New Mexico. Records and Information Management (RIMS) is responsible for the management of NMDOT’s records and for responding to Inspection of Public Records (IPRA) and other records requests.

Why does the job exist?

To provide high school students, GED/HiSET students, or recent high school level graduates, with an introduction to employment with the state of New Mexico. Incumbents will receive training in departmental procedures and will be assigned tasks and assignments in a variety of professional areas. Work is under close supervision. Guidelines include agency policies and procedures.

How does it get done?

This intern will work directly with the manager to perform record management and archive duties.

The intern will gain a precise understanding of administrative and clerical procedures within New Mexico Department of Transportation and State Records and Archive.

The Intern will assist the Records and Information Management section as needed but primarily with records management.

The intern will work with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe and other computer software applications.

Who are the customers?

The NMDOT General Office and District Offices staff, NMDOT Office of General Counsel, the public and other state and local government requesters.

Minimum Qualification

Current enrollment in High School curriculum or GED/HiSET education program OR High School Graduate or successful completion of GED or HiSET within the last two (2) years.

Employment Requirements

The Intern will not drive a state vehicle.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
