Position Summary:
Accountable for the process of checking in surgery patients professionally and accurately.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Prepares patient chart with required documents.
- Checks in patients professionally and accurately.
- Files/reviews all appropriate medical documents which include lab, x-ray, hospital reports, dictation and other correspondence. Confirms completion of all documentation required to support surgery/procedure.
- Answers phones, screens and directs calls, pages as needed, relays messages efficiently.
- May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Management Responsibilities:
This position has no management responsibilities.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or one year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Understanding of medical terminology, preferred.
- Working knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10CPT coding, preferred.
- In depth knowledge of HIPAA regulations preferred.
- Previous computer experience required.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence required.

Working Conditions:
- Position is Category II of Potential Exposure, which includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but may require performing unplanned Category I tasks (expected exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues). OSHA Blood borne Pathogen Standard 1910.1030(c)(2)(i) more specifically defines Category II Potential Exposure as: Normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues but exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Work is generally performed in an indoor, well-lighted, well-ventilated, heated and air-conditioned environment.
