Mauna Kea Beach Resort (MKBH and Westin Kids Club) Keiki Club Counselor
Primary Responsibilities:
A Keiki Club counselor for Mauna Kea Keiki Club and Westin Hapuna Kids Club is responsible for leading and directing children through supervised recreational activities which become instrumental in fostering new friendships and creating fond memories through play, art and culture. Provide exceptional childcare activities for children ages 5-12 years old through play, participation and interaction.
Essential Duties:
- Greets and registers guests to Keiki Club sessions and specialty classes, greets parents with authentic aloha providing punctual and polite service to parents.
- Register arriving and departing children. Ensure registration forms and waivers are completed.
- Responsible for communicating a summary of the activities planned for the sessions.
- Prepare and set-up activities.
- Communicate behavioral expectations to children to ensure that we provide a safe, fun and fair learning environment
- Instruct indoor crafts, outdoor games, activities such as hikes, scavenger hunts, tidepool exploration, lei making lessons, and others
- Assist with sunscreen application and washroom breaks.
- Swim and interact with children.
- The process room charge payments for all fees.
- Assist with serving snacks, assist with Charlie Cart project, including set up and clean up.
Other Duties:
- With collaboration with Keiki Club director/activities manager, propose, plan and create stimulating and educational activities for children 5-12 years.
- Answering phones, assist taking reservations, photocopying, filing.
- Advises activities manager on status of inventory and operations.
- Report all suspicious persons or activities, hazardous conditions, etc. to security department.
- Report accidents, injuries, and safety concerns.
- Attend all mandatory meetings.
- Provide general public assistance and/or activity schedule guidance for guests.
- May occasionally help with other keiki-related activities (during busy seasons).
- In addition to performance of the essential functions, maybe required to perform supportive functions.
Working Conditions:
- Indoor air conditioned room
- Resort swimming pool (for pool time)
- Beach (for sand castle sand wa’a activities)
- Beachfront lawn (for outdoor games)
Work Hours:
- Must be willing to be scheduled between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and flexible days of the week as determined by the manager.
- Travel between 2 hotels when needed
Communication Demands:
- Must have the ability to communicate with aloha verbally and in writing to employees, manager and guests/clients.
- Ability to communicate over the phone in a respectful, professional and friendly manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- State-required paperwork such as background check and fingerprinting,
- Medical reports completed by physician/NP/medical professional to fulfill State requirements
- TB clearance
- Must be willing to complete the continuing education requirements needed (16 hours annually)
- Must be willing to fill out necessary paperwork as per State requirements
- At least 18 years old, high school graduate (for program leaders)
- Experience working with children-whether a paid or unpaid volunteer activity a plus.
