Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and bilingual Family Practice Front Desk Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative tasks efficiently. This role requires proficiency in medical office operations, familiarity with electronic health records (Athena) systems, and the ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. The receptionist will support clinical staff by handling patient intake, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and medical documentation review, ensuring smooth clinic operations and compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and professionally in both English and Spanish, establishing a welcoming environment.
- Schedule patient appointments accurately using our EMR system, Athenahealth.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and other third-party payers.
- Collect patient demographic information and perform insurance verification procedures.
- Manage patient check-in and check-out processes efficiently while maintaining confidentiality of medical records in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Review documentation for accuracy and completeness related to care plans, medical records, and billing documentation.
- Maintain organized filing systems for medical records and office documents using Microsoft Office tools or other office management software like Dentrix or Eaglesoft.
- Assist clinical staff with administrative support tasks such as data entry, documentation review, and office management duties.
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations including HIPAA guidelines during daily operations.
Requirements
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is essential.
- Prior experience working in a medical office setting or clinic environment is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Athenahealth
- Familiarity with medical billing, coding (ICD-9/10, CPT), insurance verification, and Medicare procedures.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology relevant to family practice clinics.
- Excellent customer service skills coupled with professional phone etiquette and clerical abilities.
- Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) along with typing skills (10 key typing).
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
