Job Profile
The Equipment Operator 2 works under the supervision of the Waterworks Foreman and performs a variety of duties that include operating and maintaining trucks of various sizes, inspecting and assisting in or making repairs or installations of water distributions systems and appurtenances, providing emergency water supply, operating and maintaining various types of tools and equipment, completing reports or records as required, maintaining shops, garage and yards and inventory of same, assisting in the training of employees, responding to customer services requests, and assisting in Emergency Services. In the course of carrying out daily tasks, the incumbent will be required to practice established safety procedures in the execution of assigned duties.
As The Equipment Operator 2 – Emergency Services, You Will
- Operate and maintain trucks of various sizes from half-ton up to tandem dump such as test truck, hydrant truck, service vehicles and crane truck, as well as rubber-tired tractor loader as may be required.
- Assist in or make repairs or installations of water distribution system and appurtenances.
- Inspect and maintain water distribution system and appurtenances.
- In the course of carrying out daily tasks, practices established safety rules and regulations for the protection of self, fellow employees, the public, property and equipment operated.
- Provide emergency water supply.
- Operate and maintain various types of tools and equipment such as compressors, drill rigs, cranes (mounted on truck), pumps, power tools, cutting tools, hand tools, etc., as may be required.
- Complete reports or records as required such as the MMS task cards, customer services reports, hydrant inspection booklets, etc.
- Maintain cooperative working relations with other Departments, Districts, Branches, Sections or related work groups.
- Maintain vehicle, yard and shop inventory.
- Maintain shops, garage and yards.
- Assist in the training of employees.
- Respond to customer services requests.
- Assist in Emergency Services.
- Perform related duties consistent with the classification; works overtime, various shifts, in the six Districts, Meter Shop, and Emergency Services Section as required.
Your Education And Qualifications Include
- Grade 10 or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must have a working knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act.
- Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Certificate, or be able to obtain same within 6 months.
- Must have demonstrated ability in the same or junior classification.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts such as contractors, other government services, elected officials and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
- Must possess a thorough working knowledge of the varied functions of the Water section such as excavations, repairs, hydrants, valves, meters and general maintenance.
- Must be able to work effectively with minimum supervision.

Conditions Of Employment
- The successful candidate must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful candidate possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate at their expense.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement. Successful Applicant with a Class 5 driver's license will be considered, provided they are willing to undertake training for the Class 3 driver's license and obtain same within one month of commencement of training session. The successful applicant will be required to provide a driver’s notice in force document upon request.
- Must be physically capable of performing all the duties of the position including the ability to lift up to 50lbs, work in confined spaces, and work outside for extended periods often under unfavorable weather conditions as required by work assignments.

Position Reports To: Water Maintenance Supervisor
- If and when these temporary positions become permanent, the successful applicants to this bulletin will automatically receive this position and a further bulletin will not be necessary.
- The qualifications for this classification are in accordance with the certification requirements as outlined in the Water and Wastewater Facility Operators Regulations under the Environment Act.
- Must have Water Distribution Class 1 by Provincial Examination or the ability to achieve within 18 months of appointment.
- Employees must successfully complete skill training and certification requirements within the required timeframes in order to maintain employment and progress.
- Must be willing to wear the standard uniform and personal protective equipment and other safety equipment issued to the Emergency Services crews.
- These duties include working with computers (Water Information System (WIS), OWAM).
- Applicants will be required to undergo testing to determine their knowledge, abilities, and skills as they relate to the qualification of the position.
