Job Objective & Safety/Security Sensitive Designation

JOB OBJECTIVE: To receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, medical, and other public safety services; gathers essential information, determines the nature and priority of the call, and dispatches appropriate response units in compliance with all applicable guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols.

This position is designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Essential Functions

Minimum Qualifications, Additional Requirements and Supervisory Responsibilities

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through the completion of high school and one (1) year of clerical and customer service experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Level 1-Basic Terminal Operator and Level 2-Advanced Operator certifications within one (1) year of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this position.
  • Must successfully complete Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) and Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) certification programs within established departmental timelines and maintain certifications throughout employment in this position.
  • Must maintain performance standards established by departmental policies and accreditation requirements.
  • Must comply with all accreditation standards, departmental policies, and operational procedures and participates in accreditation-related activities as required.
  • Must be available to work outside of regular business hours to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required to include twenty-four (24) hour on-call work availability and/or various twelve (12) hour shift assignments and overtime as required.
  • Prior to any exposure to criminal justice information must obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security and privacy certification and maintain the certification for the duration of employment in this position.

RETIREMENT

PENSION– All full time, non-uniform employees

Non-uniform employees shall be required to participate immediately upon employment in the 2014 Defined Benefit Plan. Contributions are mandatory for both the employee and the city. Contribution rates are Employee: 4.5% of salary Employer 9% of salary.

OTHER COMPENSATION

LONGEVITY PAY (provided to all employees)

Longevity pay will be paid at the rate of $4 per month for each year of service up to and including the fifth (5th) year and $6 per month for each year of service beginning at six (6) years and each year there after.
