Why does the job exist?
This position serves as a Data Processor and backup cashier for New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute (NMBHI) and is the initial and primary payment receipt, documentation and data input point for NMBHI clients, residents, and patients for all monetary transactions. The Data Processor verifies and accurately enters data into NMBHl's software programs quickly and accurately. These transactions include but are not limited to the posting of electronic and paper remittances from Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, and Private payers. Entry of Medical/Psych and pharmacy charges, Entry of inventory requisitions/receiving reports Incumbent is responsible for the auditing of all data entered to ensure the accuracy and timely submission to supervisor.
How does it get done?
- Entering all electronic and paper remittance payments received daily from Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial and Private payers to the respective billed Patient/Client/Resident account. Run audit report for accuracy of postings.
- Entering all medical, psych, lab and pharmacy charges daily to the respective Patient/Client/Resident account. Run audit report for accuracy of entries.
- Processing all adjustments received from the reimbursement department to the respective Patient/Client/Resident account. Run audit report for accuracy if entries.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail oriented, accurate, and takes a positive and professional approach to their role. This candidate can work in high stress environments; has a working knowledge of third-party payers; is well organized; and has an aptitude for accuracy and efficiency. The ideal candidate has a knowledge of the AVATAR database system. This candidate has excellent time management skills with the ability to work in a heavy volume environment with multiple and diverse data sets and is a confident communicator.
This Ideal Candidate would also have:
- Experience in providing excellent customer service.
- Experience with building strong/productive working relationships.
- Experience with conflict resolution and interacting with the public.
- Experience with organizing daily operations and providing feedback to senior management.
Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or Equivalency and six (6) months experience in bookkeeping, office administration, auditing, accounting, and/or finance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers, and phone usage with extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Some travel may be required.
