Job Summary
The Communications & Public Relations Manager is responsible for the overall development and coordination of the content, communications, and public relations aspects for the organization, utilizing various platforms and messaging vehicles with community engagement initiatives to increase stakeholder awareness, visitor and resident sentiment and increased visitation leading to increase economic impact.

Duties
· Develops and implements the Communications Plan strategy, tactics and policies using industry best practices to maximize ROI and engagement.

· Develops and implements the Public Relations Plan strategy, tactics, and policies using industry best practices to maximize ROI and engagement.

· Research, develop, create and write all content for marketing uses and advertising placements to meet criteria, goals, key messaging and space working in collaboration with the Marketing Manager to meet deadlines.

· Lead, develop, and create all destination blog posts, destination story ideas, to align with campaigns, seasons and targeted niche audiences.

· Monitor and update all website content to maximize SEO optimization, keyword searches and communications best practices.

· Develop and create press releases for the corporation and for the destination to maximize organizational exposure and positive results.

· Manage and communicate a grant and sponsorship programs including establishing, disseminating, and retrieving guidelines, expectations, applications, and process to all potential and eligible partners, ensuring project goals, budgets and timelines are met.

· Develop and facility related grant and sponsorship activation tactics, reports, and measurements to ensure meeting related community advocacy goals, objectives and fiscal responsible standards.

· Create relevant digital and social media content to meet deadlines for each platform meeting best practices while targeting niche audiences to achieve maximum engagement.

· Prepare and analyze monthly reports with measurements indicating communications and public relations data and statistics.

· Research, create and maintain a national/regional media list and distribution plan targeting journalists, travel writers, bloggers, influencers, and targeted niche publications in the CRM software complete with associated protocols and procedures.

· Research, create and maintain a local/regional media list and distribution plan for corporate press releases to communicate corporate messages, research data and the value of tourism to the local economy.

· Research and identify targeted editorial calendars and distribute targeted pitches and story ideas to gain given media presence in national/regional and local publications.

· Host and invite qualified journalists, bloggers and influencers on press trips and FAM trips to the destination generating appropriate posts, stories and insertions in publications or online.

· Researches, develops, and manages the destination photo and video library, both stock, commissioned, local and staff photography/video as needed identifying gaps.

· Assists Marketing Manager with coordination and development of digital and social media strategies

· Research, plan and recommend communications and public relations tactics and strategies to market the destination in keeping with the Strategic Plan.

· Maintain memberships on behalf of the destination in appropriate media associations building relationships, database, and potential insertions.

· Manage any media/public relations tools, memberships or programs

· Assist in the promotion of various events

· Attend media related tradeshows and conferences as needed (1-2 times per year).

· Handle special projects and other work as assigned.

Administrative: (20%)

· Provide monthly media and communications reports.

· Create content for the annual business plan and annual reports.

· Assist with annual Visitor Guide and Coupon Book content and guide development.

· Assist with brochure content updates as needed.

· Support Visitors Center staff as needed including appropriate telephone support, visitor interaction, or requested clerical support.

· Prepares budget recommendations for consideration by the Executive Director.

· All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
– Experience in Public relations required; tourism destination and marketing preferred. Minimum Associates Degree required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Desired Skills and Experience:

· Knowledge and skills around organizational communications, public relations, social media, website communications, content creation and database management.

· Experience developing communications and public relations plans and implementing strategies.

· Very strong and creative written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking skills.

· Experience working with public relations firms, journalists, media outlets, and communications experts.

· Experience with video and photo creation, editing and design

· High relational, interpersonal and collaboration skills needed to understand, engage and enhance relationships with constituents, public officials, and other partners.

· Expertise in researching, creating and implementing innovative strategies to enhance the success of the organization on an on-going basis, targeted toward goal achievement.

· Comfortable in soliciting, pitching, suggesting, selling and communicating to targeted audiences

· Ability to take direct ownership for annual communication and public relations goals, and outcomes fostering positive human relations/customer impact.

· Experience with grant and sponsorship process is preferred.

· Strong track record of positioning an organization to achieve tangible outcomes in a communications environment.

· Knowledge and use of SEO, Google, and social media analytics.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office software (WORD, Excel, Power Point, Teams)

· Experience with Simpleview CRM or other CRM product.

· Ability to understand customer needs, problem solve and respond effectively.

· Must be able to hear and converse via telephone and in person.

· Valid driver license required with ability to drive occasionally to meetings and events.

· Ability and willingness to travel (drive or fly) to tradeshows and conferences.
