CERTIFIED PHARMACY TECHNICIAN:
Education & Experience:
Candidates must have completed a formal pharmacy training program with at least two (2) months of course credit and satisfactorily completed internship.
The applicant must have at least one (1) year of Pharmacy Technician experience, have a current CPR certification, and experience working in a correctional environment is preferred, but not required. The applicant must possess knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures to perform job activities on various types of medical equipment and automated systems and safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment. Possess the ability to relate and deal effectively with Physicians, peers, AICs, and others; to recognize, report, and record changes in patient’s physical and emotional condition; and to administer medication. All contract workers under this BPA shall have the ability to read, understand, count, fluently speak, and legibly write the English language. Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical Correctional setting are desirable but not required. The contractor must specifically identify the individual(s) that will be performing these services along with their quote. The candidate’s name and documents supporting their qualifications must accompany their quote (resume, photocopies of certificates, verification of education, licensure, etc.). Also, the contractor is required to provide a letter of recommendation from three (3) peers.
Services will be scheduled between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, five (5) days a week with a thirty-minute unpaid lunch period, excluding federal holidays.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The contractor shall provide the following Pharmacy Technician services, which include,
but are not limited to, the items listed below.
- Perform self-carry medication line daily or when directed by the Chief Pharmacist, HSA or designee.
- Assist the staff with conducting medication pass (pill line) as needed and when scheduled.
- Assist the staff pharmacist in ordering, stocking, and dispensing prescription and non-prescription medications while demonstrating knowledge of the budgetary guidelines and BOP formulary constraints.
- Maintain pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion consistent with departmental safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Assist the pharmacist in maintaining stock of up-to-date medications (checking for outdates per policy) in the main pharmacy, satellite camp, crash carts, emergency bags and pyxis.
- Assist the pharmacist with maintaining stock of forms as needed and updating pill line/ restricted medication cards for AICs.
- Assist the pharmacist in preparing unit doses or pre-packaged medications.
- Maintain the narcotics count and the needle and syringe inventories.
- Maintain and restock adequate supplies for the pyxis.
- Possess a working knowledge and maintain technical computer skills pertaining to pharmacy issues.
- Must participate in Improving Organizational Performance Data and Quality Assurance Activities as directed by the Pharmacist or HSA.
- Perform minor clerical duties; such as use of BOP electronic medical record, computer documentation and scheduling, scanning documents, disposing of paper documentation, filing, typing, call-outs, institutional memorandums, answering phones, scheduling patients and maintaining stock records.
Qualifications
Experience: 1 year Pharmacy Technician experience within the last 3 years.
Education: High school diploma and completion of a Phlebotomy program.
Credentials: Pharmacy Technician Certificate; BLS required.
References: Supervisory and professional references required.We’re seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to support the Pharmacist and deliver excellent patient care. The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of experience.
