Funding for this position is between a minimum of $21.86 and maximum of $23.62 an hour.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within one week of closing date.

Why does the job exist?
Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) Agents are the front line of MVD’s operations. This position will process vehicle transactions for New Mexico carriers who operate intrastate/interstate, traveling throughout the US, and Canada with commercial registration and weight distance permits as well as assisting with compliance issues.
How does it get done?
This position will be responsible for the following duties:
- Utilizes MVD’s data systems to process vehicle transactions.
- Reviews each transaction’s supporting documentation to ensure compliance with state and federal law.
- Receives, processes, and accounts for transactions conducted.
- Provides quality customer service by greeting and serving customers inquires made telephonically, via the internet or by mail.
- Processes all International Registration Plan (IRP) transactions including new accounts, renewals and supplements in a timely manner.
- Assists carrier or agents with weight distance permit issues.
- Provides education to carriers in regard to state statute and federal regulations.
All staff members are expected to uphold excellence in customer service as Motor Vehicle offices are most often the citizen’s first experience with state government in New Mexico. That stated, the motor vehicle agent’s responsibility goes beyond customer service duties. Our call center agents are trained on complex transactions regarding issuance of federally compliant credentials, ownership documents on titles, reinstatement and suspension of credentials, and issuances of medical denials and concerns to name the most common transactions.
This requires understanding, interpretation, and implementation of federal law, state statutes and administrative code. Each transaction processed by our MVD agents require extensive understanding of the parameters that allow to get the credential needed so that they can skillfully relay the information back to our customers.
This position will be expected to deliver quality work, collaboration with the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) management, co workers and the public in delivering quality transactions with proficiency and a sense of urgency.

This position serves New Mexico Commercial Vehicle carriers who operate intrastate and interstate. This position will also provide assistance to other jurisdictions, state agencies and law enforcement.

Minimum Qualification
High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of general office, clerical, and/or administrative experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must be current with all tax reporting/payment. Employment is subject to post offer pre-employment criminal background check to include fingerprint checks and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Some standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. High pressure/stress situations. Some travel may be required.
