Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The English Department has a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in such areas as American, British, and world literature; the English language and linguistics; professional writing, including technical writing, business writing, and journalism; expository writing, rhetoric, and composition; and teacher training. The English Department reports to the College of Humanities, Social Sciences and the Arts and has 38 full-time faculty, 28 part-time faculty, and 1.6 full-time Administrative Support staff. The English Department has 250 undergraduate majors and 40 graduate majors.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The primary purpose of this Administrative Specialist position is to provide administrative support to the English Department.
- Process purchases, requisitions and independent contractors and travel.
- Enter assignments for faculty load and compensation and EPAFs.
- Maintain the departmental budget, and prepares summary data reports.
- Assist in tracking faculty research and grants.
- Maintain confidential records, files and databases including equipment, computer and surplus tracking.
- Assist the department chair with various matters as they arise.
- Assist with various office matters including room scheduling, answering telephones and welcoming visitors, directing students to department resources, copying and preparing class materials, including coordination of book orders.
- Assist in the supervision of student workers in coordination with the department chair.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work..
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
- Strong organizational skills & self motivation.
- Experience with higher-education administrative systems (preferably Banner).
- Knowledge of purchasing, travel, and budget-related processes.
- HR/Personnel and hiring support experience.
- Experience to coordinating logistics and operations across multiple priorities.
