ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS SUMMARY:
Front desk employees greet all patients, register demographic and insurance
information, collect copays and payments on accounts.
Verify information is correct in system, answer phones and check voicemail, sort faxes
and schedule any patients appointments, direct patient calls to correct clinical staff
members.
Employees are responsible for checking the voicemails and for patient call backs.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Skills in data entry and EMR programs.
Advanced telephone, computer and multitasking skills.
Must exhibit, demonstrate and maintain outstanding customer service skills
Maintain acceptable levels of attendance and punctuality.
Warmly welcome office visitors and callers and display a positive attitude as well as professional, polite, considerate and courteous conduct and treatment of others in the course of duties.
Exhibits friendly and helpful behavior.
Schedule follow up/return visits for patients.
Obtain appropriate pre-authorizations, as needed.
Schedule medical tests and procedures for patients.
Retrieve information from other hospital systems.
Holds in confidence all matters concerning patients according to HIPAA guidelines.
Produce and keep updated patient files; help patients with documents
Keep office area clean and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment
Comply with all health policies and regulations
Phone triage and relaying messages to patients and providers
Greet all patients and visitors to make them feel welcome. *Complete the check-in process and all required paperwork/system updates.
Answer phones and messages promptly with a positive attitude and resolve patient questions.
Check voicemail and EMR messages regularly and return all calls by the end of the day.
Back up and assist other office staff as needed.
Manage electronic health records (EHR) and ensure compliance with privacy laws and regulations.
Assist in managing office inventory and supplies.
Cross-training will involve medical records, prescription refills, prior authorizations, pre-
certifications, and scanning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Prefer 1 year experience within a front desk setting.
Must be able to work independently and to maintain mental focus for long periods of time.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in healthcare or administrative fields is a plus.
Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare environment preferred.
Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems preferred, but on site training available.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes is preferred.
Exceptional customer service and telephone skills and a commitment to patient care.
